Coca-Cola has found a mobile solution to a supply chain issue. In small “mom-and-pop stores,” product outages are often an issue both for the store and for Coca-Cola.
Coca-Cola created a mobile app that allows small stores to request products from local distributors. Then, the distributors can respond with bids to which the store can accept pricing and terms. Distributors then use local delivery options to fulfill the orders. This mobile solution is now being used in seven countries.
So how much of a difference does this mobile technology make? Orders that traditionally tooks days are now filled in 45 minutes to 4 hours. While each store’s order may be small, this improvement in logistics will have major benefits on a global scale.
